My first "system" started with a Sony reel to reel with a bi-directional head. My dad bought it for me and I thought it was the coolest piece of gear ever. I was 10. It still may be! Dad and I built a pair of Bose 901's. They sounded like crap but were very cool - 9 drivers in each cabinet. I'm pretty sure we broke all the cabinet building rules. Very sure.

Truth is I'm still on the "merry go round". I need a preamp. A good one. There is still an amazing amount of magic here going direct to amp!

What a great looking set up. We have a lot of gear in common for sure. Your arm is a JMW 9, or a JMW 9 sig if it has Nordost Valhalla wire. The Valhalla wire is silver colored wher it exits the tone arm.

How are you liking your Decade D-1's?

As far as pre-amps go the Pass stuff is great. I've had the X-1 and it is a great value used, but if cost is not an issue the XP-20 betters it and is alos more user friendly.

After looking at your photos, I was trying to imagine how it sounds. I concluded it must sound awesome. Like you, I'm using a Signature JMW-9, but on a Scout, and an XX2MKII cart, so I pretty well know how that front end sounds, so how about the digital end? In one of your photos, the caption stated, "Remember the Time Lens? I do, I use a much-modded unit with a modded Musical Fidelity A3 24 dac. That sounds pretty good, considering the vintage, but the PS Audio stack must really shine. Nice speakers, too. Beautiful, enjoy!

Regars,
Dan

I don't have the Valhalla wire set. Would like to know the difference as I'm a bit of a wire freak.

I'm gearing up for a Decade review. Due to the fact that there are few reviews on Tylers lineup so I wish to be as accurate as I can just in case someone actually cares what about my 2 cents worth.

Srwooten - ya, I've looked at your page for years. Stellar setup. I want to hear it!

Islandman. You know too much. I was looking at your cross overs. I think the most overlooked component in anyone's system. I'm looking for help with mine.

Still playing with setup now that I have the Allnic in place. Generally it sounds unreal but there is a nagging issue and I think it relates to the speaker driver(s).

Vocals sometimes seem to have a hard edges quality to them. I tamed it mostly by changing a 1 ohm resistor to a 2 ohm restor between the inductor and tweeter, but to be honest, I have no idea what I'm doing... It did seem to help marginally but after the Allnic was inserted, I went back to the original 1 ohm resistor. Again, most music is to die for but generaly speaking, There's a spotlit bit of personality I wish to tame that's not related to front end or power cables. Possibly interconnects but I hadn't heard this nuance in the past with various speaker systems.

That being said these speakers are accurate, tuneful and a pleasure to look at. Most of what I hear now is the best I've ever heard. The Allnic linestage is the real deal.

The Valhalla wire is smoother and more detailed. If your gonna' move up, move to the 10.5i. Better all around.

Hello Desalvo,

Since my last post, I completed a DIY project Garrard 401 restoration, and am using a Dynavector 501 arm. A Zu Denon 103R is making me think it's time a new cantilever/stylus is needed on the Dyna XX2MKII. The 103R sounds that much better, to my surprise.

By the way, I've never been accused of knowing too much, just enough to get myself into a great deal of trouble once in awhile.

Have you made any changes lately, you made mention of a bit of "spotlit" personality, have things settled in so that's no longer an issue?

Regards and enjoy,
Dan

Desalvo, I also had Joule amps and put in a stock of american made tube sockets but never used them. I recently found them in my spares. They are available if you decide to change out the poorly made sockets. My phone is 763-497 3858...Ron
